The prevalent misconception about egg donation is that it means that the donor is selling her eggs. The law does not permit this practice. However, the donor does get a financial reward for giving her time to the cause. The egg donation process is a lengthy one that generally goes on for about 3 months. During this time, she must on hand at any moment for appointments and checkups. Another mistaken belief is that donating one's eggs will lead to infertility issues due to the limited number of eggs. This idea is incorrect because the procedure involved does not have anything to do with the donor's eggs. Egg donation involves introduction of certain hormones into the body that enables the production of new eggs. Other parts of the procedure includes removing the new eggs in a surgery known as egg retrieval and inserting the new eggs into the recipient or freezing them for the future.
