Most of the time in the past, the recipient of the egg would make their choice in accepted donors from a fertility clinic, basing their decision on a description of various traits. Both donor and recipient would often prefer to keep the matter confidential. Today, however, an increasing number of donors and recipients alike are making the event a more personal one by meeting and, sometimes, staying in touch throughout the life of the child.
