Boston breeders will tell you that there is a lot of demand these days for what are known as "colored" Boston terriers. The American Kennel Club Standards allow for three colors to go with a Boston's white markings: black, brindle or seal. Black is the Boston's show standard so if you want to win ribbons, get a black and white Boston terrier. If you don't plan to show your Boston, the brindle and seal are great colors. Brindle is a distinctive pattern of brown, tan, and black. The AKC defines the color seal as black with a red cast in the sunlight.
